Introduction

Hi, I'm James! πŸ‘‹ I'm a software engineer at heart, focusing on building applications & services that make a real impact to people & teams.

Hardware

16” MacBook Pro, M1 Max, 16GB RAM

Before this, I was using an Intel i5 13" MacBook Pro from 2015, and the difference between Intel & Apple Silicon is jaw-dropping. It may be a few years old now, but it's my go-to device to get the job done. And the bigger screen? Has been fantastic when commuting to the office.

AOC Gaming Monitor CU34G2XPD, 34” WQHD curved monitor, 3440x1440

This monitor completely re-energised my work setup. This, two HDMI cables & enabling Picture-by-Picture gives me effectively two monitors under a single glass panel - it's absolutely fantastic & incredibly high-definition.

Apple AirPods Max

The best headphones I've ever owned. Seriously. Best battery life I've ever experienced (I can fly over to the US west coast on a single charge no bother) & easy connectivity options to the Apple ecosystem.

Steamdeck

My most recent purchase - this little powerhouse has been an incredible daily gaming device. I'm slowly modernising my Steam library (thanks to the Wishlist notifying me when Steam sales are on!) &

Software

macOS

Brave

One day I was triggered by Google Chrome's interference & finally made the switch - Brave has been an excellent experience so far, and the privacy blockers have been a breath of fresh air when browsing the today's ad-infested internet.

VSCode

I switched over from Atom & not looked back. There are a lot of suspicious extensions though, so you do need to be wary when the classic suggestion pops up "Would you like to install ..." but overall, it's easy to work with & settings sync with GitHub!

iTerm2

More than just the built-in macOS Terminal, iTerm2 has a ridiculously effective split-screen feature, which is handy given how much I seem to multi-task in a full-screen iTerm session!

Games

Dishonored (2012)

A stunning story with high-quality single-player gameplay, parkour, powers & pistols! This stands the test of time, with it's graphics & gameplay complementing eachother flawlessly.

Dishonored 2 (2016)

Sequel to Dishonored - the next generation of parkour, powers & pistols! This game is my evidence the Steam Deck was the right console for me 😍

Marvel's Spider-Man (2018)

Unbelivable game that's worthly of purchasing a console outright - an amazing single-player game set in it's own Spider-Man universe, two big-name villains (or seven, depending how you count it) & a proper open-world web-swinging experience.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (2023)

Sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man - 3 big-name villains, 2 Spider-men & 1 seriously long single-player campaign.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order (2019)

Incredible game & incredible story - an amazing single-player game in the Star Wars universe, set after the events of the third film ("Execute order 66")

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor (2023)

Sequel to Jedi Fallen Order - might be the only sequel I've played where the main character isn't nerfed in the opening act 😍

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)

BotW was the game that changed Zelda from a linear dungeon crawler to an open-world masterpiece. This game stands tall today - with it's unique art style, superb gameplay & it's own set of puzzles.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (2023)

Sequel to Breath of the Wild - main character was (quite literally) nerfed right back to "level 1" in the opening act πŸ˜‚ But the story fits it in perfectly, along with all the new changes to the world, this game is an excellent sequel & possibly my favourite Zelda game of all time.
